Everything you need to know about the student direct stream

posted on: December 27, 2022

Canada has recently launched a student direct stream programme meant specifically for international students from 12 countries in particular. Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will allow students from these 12 countries to apply for student visas through the student direct stream programme. This will allow the government to process their visa application within 20 days of the submission. The 12 countries include-

  1. Antigua and Barbuda;
  2. Brazil;
  3. China;
  4. Colombia;
  5. Costa Rica;
  6. India;
  7. Morrocco;
  8. Pakistan;
  9. Peru;
  10. Philippines;
  11. Senegal;
  12. Trinidad and Tobago;
  13. St. Vincent and the Grenadines; and
  14. Vietnam.

It is important that all citizens of these countries who  want to apply for a visa in Canada must be living in that country only. If you have a citizenship of some other countries as well and are currently residing there, then you're not eligible. The aim of this new initiative is to decrease the time taken in the processing of visa applications. There are a number of benefits associated with SDS that all the eligible applicants can avail.
