In a recent survey, it has been found that the number of students opting for engineering programmes in the Masters and PhD degrees has dropped significantly. Now students prefer to go for a physical sciences degree for their Masters and PhD program. The number of students opting for an engineering program has declined from 34% to 17% in the last one decade. On the other hand, the number of students opting for a physical sciences program in their Masters and PhD degrees has increased from 27% to 37%. Physical sciences is on the verge of becoming the most popular program among Indian students for pursuing their Masters and PhD degrees from foreign countries. Physical sciences include physics, chemistry and earth sciences. It is a very versatile field and has vast career opportunities.
