Total 28 Indian students have been deported by the American authorities in 2023 so far. This data has been released by the Minister of External Affairs of India, Mr.V Murlidharan in the recent Lok Sabha session. It was discussed that the US government needs to have a more fair system in treating these detained students and having a transparent mechanism. Most of the students are detained for unspecified reasons and are sent back to India after a series of interrogation sessions.
The Ministry is planning to launch outreach programmes to provide support to the students in such a scenario. These programmes will not only help students abroad but also ensure that all international students are saved from fraudulent visa agents. These agents do not just take money from the students by unfair means but also land these students in legal troubles. Now that more and more students are going to the US for higher education, the government is planning to launch initiatives that will help in a smooth immigration from India to the US.
