Canada has been a very popular study abroad destination for Indian students for the longest time. The recent spat between the two countries scared students across the borders about the immigration process. Although assurance has been provided from both the ends, there is still no official statement. Keeping the interest of Indians to study in Canada, many favourable rules have been made to make immigration much smoother for Indian students.
Most visa applications are processed within 60 days. The special SDS programme also allows students from specific countries to come to Canada for higher education and work. At present it is compulsory for all international students who want to study in Canada to receive an acceptance letter from designated learning institutes of the country to get a study permit. However, due to the political tensions between India and Canada, many things have become uncertain. Students who have received acceptance letters from accredited universities of Canada are unable to get visas.
