Canada has finally implemented its much anticipated student visa cap. The Trudeau government has decided to only issue 2,92,000 student visas in 2024. This is the number for both post graduate and undergraduate students combined. The IRCC had extended its concern over the unsustainable growth of international students in Canada, which was leading to rise in housing prices and less availability of part-time jobs. Initially it was decided to reduce the number of students by 35% over the span of the coming two years. This meant that Canada would allow 3,60,000 new students to study in the country. In 2024, students can expect an overall acceptance rate of 60% for international students from different countries. There will be a massive decline in student visa processing for bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees.
