As per the recent report, more than 46,000 international students are currently studying in India from more than 170 different countries. The Union Education Ministry has accumulated this data by interviewing and researching around 1162 universities from around the world. Majority of the students coming to India from foreign countries are from Nepal and Afghanistan. More than 42,000 colleges and 10,000 standalone institutions have also taken part in this process. Some other huge contributors include the United States of America, Bangladesh and the UAE.
74.8% students coming from other countries enrol in undergraduate courses and more than 15% students enrol in postgraduate courses. Rest of the students enrolled in some diploma or short-term programmes.
