After much deliberation, Delhi University is all set to establish a Centre for Advanced Studies in Buddhism. This will be a collaboration between the university and the Ministry of Minority Affairs. The purpose of establishing the department is to revive the Buddhist studies in India. The estimated cost to establish this new centre is going to be at least INR 35 crore. In the past few years there has been a growing demand among young students to pursue courses in the field of Buddhist studies. Through this initiative, the Ministry of Minority Affairs wants to increase the number of opportunities for students who want to know more about different cultures and religions of India. The centre is going to offer bachelors, masters and even PhD degrees to interested students.
