France takes back its deposit payment bill meant for international students

posted on: January 29, 2024

A few days back, the government of France announced that it will be introducing a new deposit payment bill. A selected amount of money had to be paid by international students who want to study in the country. This money was like an assurance fee that would be held by the government in case a particular student commits something illegal in the country. Upon the successful completion of a student’s study tenure in the country, the amount would be refunded. This new bill was not met with a lot of positive feedback. Upon a close review of the Constitutional Council, France has decided to take back this deposit payment bill for now. The council has also taken the proposal back which required non-EU students to annually submit a proof of being indulged in serious studies. This has been officially confirmed by various media portals in France.
