How is inflation and foreign exchange rate causing rise in the cost of accommodation for international students?

posted on: April 27, 2023

The demand for study abroad has increased a lot in the past few years. Especially after the pandemic, students have been going to foreign countries in abundance. This has caused a lot of issues like back logging of visas and unavailability of accommodation. Things have become so bad in cities like New York and London that some students have to switch to online mode of education because of unavailability of accommodation. As per reports, Australia has an inflation rate of 7% that has severely affected the cost of studying for international students. Canada has an inflation rate of 4.3% that has not caused a lot of trouble for international students. The United Kingdom initially experienced an inflation rate of 9.1%, but now it is down to 8.9%. It is still very high for international students to manage. The US as well, has experience and an inflation rate of 6.1%. All of these things have affected the studying abroad process a lot. Not only has the cost of accommodation increased but tuition fees have also been hiked by universities.
