Enrolment in state funded preschools declined by 20% for the first time in 20 years due to the pandemic. The pandemic spoiled years of hard work to enroll students in preschools and slashed care for more than a quarter million students. The pandemonium highlighted the problems with state funded preschools like lack of quality and funding. They faced challenges regarding closed classrooms, remote classrooms and learning etc. This led to a decline in the enrollment of around 300000 students. Prior to this Florida, Iowa, Oklahoma, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin – along with Washington, D.C. were teaching 70% of 4 year old kids.
