India requests the US to make changes in training programs for students coming to the US

posted on: October 20, 2023

India requests the Biden government to make changes in the optional practice training programmes that are given to Indian students going to the US on student visas. There is a huge gap between the students who graduate from India and the training required for an H1B visa. One of the several changes suggested by the Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies includes an extension of STEM training from 24 months to 48 months for all the eligible students who have a degree in science.

There is also a demand for extension of the period for applying for OPT post-graduation from 60 days to 180 days. Other than this, a lot of other changes have been suggested in respect to the training programmes for students.
