Recently, UGC made the decision that NET will be the standard exam that students will have to give to get admission in PhD programmes around the country. This means that students do not have to appear for multiple PhD entrance exams. Now the Jawaharlal Nehru University, which is one of the top institutes in the country and globally has announced that it will be accepting NET scores for giving admission to students. Earlier JNU used to conduct an entrance exam of its own for giving admission and PhD programmes. However, the recent decision made by UGC has led to alterations in the admission process. Initially the decision was resisted by many institutes around the country as they felt students would not have enough opportunities and chances to get into the top institutes of the country. However, now slowly and steadily many institutes of the country are accepting this decision.
