posted on: October 28, 2022

Scholarships are a ray of hope for all those students who want to study abroad but cannot handle the financial burden associated with it. Other than tuition fees there are a lot of hidden expenses that you have to do once you get there. This is why getting a scholarship becomes extremely important, especially for students coming from humble backgrounds. Globally a lot of universities offer so many scholarships to international students that you will be surprised. But there are a lot of myths and delusional opinions about international scholarship that are not at all true. Today we will be busting all these myths and doing a reality check. Let's look at some of the myths about international scholarships.

  • Scholarships are only meant for prodigies who are extremely good at studying. This is not true at all because the only criteria for the selection of a student eligible for a scholarship are not his or her grades. Generally, selectors look at the overall application of the candidate even for a merit scholarship. It's not just your grades that make you get a scholarship. Other than merit-based scholarships, there are also sports scholarships and need-based scholarships.
  • Another misconception among students is that only minorities and students from underdeveloped countries get scholarships in international universities. This is also completely false as universities globally or making a conscious choice to be inclusive and diverse. That is why they have a scholarship for everyone.
  • A lot of people think that the whole concept of scholarship is a hoax. It's just a waste of time because anyways you will not get the scholarship. We would like to tell you that scholarships are very much genuine. It's worth the tedious process that you are put through because, in the end, the results are worth the wait.
  • You need to understand that applying for multiple scholarships is the key. Don't get complacent and overconfident by just applying for one scholarship. Applying for multiple scholarships increases your chances of getting at least one of them.

The world is becoming a smaller place and students are moving to different countries for their study. Long gone are the days when students would opt for conventional countries like the UK, the USA and Canada etc. Now students are exploring different parts of the world and it seems ever so connected. A major part of the study abroad process are scholarships which help around 65% of the students studying abroad. By offering financial reliefs, they play a huge part in easing the burden of students. But there are some myths related to them like-

  • Scholarships are only for toppers which is totally wrong. There is a scholarship for everyone from financially weak students, to bright in sports and extracurriculars to what not.
  • Scholarships are meant for only minority groups and students is also a false statement. Although many universities try to make sure that there are certain reserved seats, only 29% of the minorities receive higher education scholarships.
  • Thinking that a scholarship application is a tedious and difficult process whereas it is very easy.
  • Many students have a mindset that all scholarships require you to write an essay which is also a myth.
  • Many students settle after applying for one scholarship. Apply for as many as you can.
