Over 250 private BEd colleges in West Bengal denied to admit students

posted on: November 10, 2023

More than 250 Private BEd colleges in West Bengal have got their license cancelled. These colleges will no longer be allowed to give admission to students in the programs from next academy year. The West Bengal University of Teachers' Training, Education Planning and Administration has taken this decision over the lack of infrastructure in these colleges. WBUTTEPA has, however, given permission to 350 other colleges to continue with their programmes.

The colleges that have been denied the permission to teach students have violated the principles and guidelines given by NCTE. There is not adequate student to teacher ratio, classroom facilities and practical related facilities present. There are currently more than 600 Private BEd colleges and more than 25 state government B.Ed. colleges in West Bengal right now.
