Pointers to keep in mind while preparing yourself to study medicine in the US

Studying medicine in the US is a big achievement as most of the universities in the US are globally acclaimed. But it is obvious that the cost to study medicine in the US is quite high. For all the people who are planning to study medicine in the US, here are some pointers that might help you.

  1. First of all, you must understand that it will take at least 8 to 10 years for you to complete your education and become a licensed medical professional in the US. This is going to be a long journey and also quite expensive so you must be prepared for the same.
  2. You will have to first pursue your free medical degree, which is a bachelors in biology, chemistry or biochemistry. The average cost to pursue bachelors in the US is US$20,000 annually. It is generally advised that students must pursue this degree from their native country's and then move to the US for MD.
  3. Students who want to study MD in the US will have to clear the MCAT exam. MCAT is a different pattern of exam for no need to students and must not be taken lightly.
  4. On an average, you will spend at least US$18,000-US$24,000 in your accommodation and food. This may also vary as per your lifestyle and the place that you are living in.
  5. You can subsidise your total cost of studying medicine in the US by exploring various scholarships and aid.
