Problems that international students face while trying to become a permanent resident in Canada

posted on: February 04, 2023

Most of the students who migrate to Canada, have an intention of permanently settling there. You cannot go to the country and get PR  directly. It involves a whole process and takes some years before you are able to get a PR. Many students think that just completing their studies in Canada will help them in getting permanent residentship in Canada. But it is a combination of both study and post-study work. You have to prove your worth to the Canadian government and show that you are an asset for the country. It is a 60% study and 40% work combination.

In order to apply for PR, you must first have a work visa. Many students try the Provincial Nominee Program which has actually made 34% transition from work visas to permanent resident ship. But the only disadvantage with this program is that professions that are in demand or given more priority over the others. This means that the demand might change over the period of time and priority will be given to different professions. So nothing is fixed. Students who are seeking work visas get exploited by a lot of employers. The students accept low wages thinking that they might get a work visa with the help of a low paying job opportunity. In any situation, you must not get exploited by the employers and try to find out a way which is more legal and effective for yourself.
