The US has processed a record breaking number of visas for Indian students in 2023. The average waiting time to get a US visa appointment is down by 75%. The demand for US Visas in India increased by 60% in 2023. 1 in every 10 visas issued by the US government was given to Indian citizens. To clear all the backlogs that were caused due to the pandemic, the US opened a new consulate in India in Hyderabad. The US is planning to open more consulates in Ahmedabad and Bangalore to decrease the waiting time even more.
Due to the staff increase and opening new consulates, the waiting time has come down significantly. more than 1,40,000 student visas were issued by the US government to Indian students in 2023. This makes Indian students the largest cohort of international graduates in the US. The US is planning to invest more in India considering the high demand. Opening new consulates will not only help in saving time but also people don't have to travel long distances just to get a visa appointment. This will ensure that no backlogs are created.
