Tier two and tier three cities from India show massive contribution towards international education

posted on: November 22, 2023

In 2022 more than 7,50,000 students from India went to foreign countries for higher education. This was a 21% increase in the number of students that went to foreign countries in 2021. More than one third of the students chose to go to the US. Recently, it was found out that one in every four international students in the US is from India. There has been a decline in the number of students preferring to go to Indian premier institutes like IITs and IIMs and are choosing to study in the top universities of foreign countries.

There has been a massive contribution from the students of tier 2 and tier 3 cities with the total spend on international education crossing $70 billion by Indian households. Most of the students take education loans whereas many also submit their fees by themselves without taking any education loans. This is a sign that foreign universities have been successful in attracting Indian students. The number of Indian students taking admission in Indian universities is falling drastically
