The University of Calgary increased its fees by 10% in May which impacted around 6000 students. Now the University of Alberta which is home to 7000 students will be hiking its fees by 6% for the 2022-2023 session. While many universities in Canada have kept their fees stagnant to attract more international students to Canada after a couple of bland years of the pandemic, these two universities raising their fees is pretty surprising. By increasing their university fees, these universities would be impacting the number of students coming to Alberta or even Canada if we look at a bigger picture. Alberta already has very high university fees as compared to other states with the average fees ranging around CA$28,014 for the 2021-22 academic year.
