UGC advises Indian institutions to avoid enroling foreign students in online programmes

posted on: April 27, 2024

In a recent notice issued by the UGC, it has been clarified that all the Indian institutes offering distance learning programmes should avoid giving admissions to foreign nationals. The eligibility to take admission in open distance learning programmes offered by Indian students is to be an Indian citizen. An Indian citizen residing in any part of the country is eligible to take admission in an open distance learning program offered by an institute in other parts of the country. However, this is not applicable for foreign nationals. It is not allowed for any Indian institution to make an exception and institutes must strictly adhere to territorial jurisdiction as specified by the UGC for giving admissions.
