The University Grants Commission has taken away the right from universities to organise any kind of entrance exams for PhD. All the universities will have to accept the UGC NET scores to give admission to students in PhD programmes. This decision has not met with acceptance from both universities and students. It is being considered as a threat against the diversity of the country. The registration process for the UGC NET June session has already started. Previously universities were allowed to conduct their entrance exams as well as consider the marks of UGC NET to give admission to students and PhD exams. However, after this decision, both students and universities only have the option of taking the UGC NET exam only.
