Around 1 million students from India are currently studying in various parts of the world. Out of these 1 million students, more than 80% are studying in the North American part. This means that the US and Canada remain the top study abroad destinations of Indian students. The USA is still the top study abroad destination among Indian students. But the only reason that students don't end up studying in the USA is because of the strict visa rules. Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and Maharashtra are the largest contributors to the total Indian population of students going abroad. It is expected that the number of students going abroad will increase in the coming years.
