The University of California declared last week that it will be waiving off tuition fees for the students who are residents of California and are a part of federally recognised tribes. The decision received mixed reactions from people. Some were elated upon hearing the decision while the left out population felt that it was very ignorant of a university that takes historical wrongdoings into consideration while making its contemporary decisions to leave out so many other deserving people of the life changing opportunity. This UC initiative is a part of its Native American Opportunity Plan to give opportunities to the superseded indigenous groups.
