Due to the recent political rift between India and Canada, winter in enrollments for Canadian universities from India have been impacted severely. Addressing the problem, Canada's minister of immigration has said that visas will still be processed for Indian students, but the processing will be much slower as compared to before. Students can expect a delay of 2-3 months in their visa processing. The process usually takes 10 days to get completed otherwise.
The students who will be most impacted by the political tensions between the two countries will be the ones who have taken admission in the January intake for Canadian universities. The students can expect to receive their visas much later. Canada is the second largest study abroad destination for Indian students. In 2022, 39.5% of the total students who went abroad for higher education chose Canada.
