The West Bengal government has decided to introduce a four year undergraduate course from the academic year 2023 to 2024, despite the announcement of the national education policy. The state education minister of West Bengal has said that the new curriculum has been introduced for students to help them avoid any kind of future problems if they decide to move abroad. Most of the foreign countries have a four year undergraduate course and for masters degree students might face some problems if they have pursued a three year undergraduate degree. As per officials, Mamata Banerjee has decided to introduce the course keeping in mind the future of the youth.
