What are the proposed changes in the H1B visa, and who is to be benefited the most

posted on: October 23, 2023

Recently, the Joe Biden administration has proposed significant changes in H1B visa policies. The proposal has been made to streamline the selection policy and make it more efficient. The official seats for H1B visas are 65,000 in number annually. It is a non-immigration visa given to people from around the world and allows companies in the US to employ skilled workers. It is typically offered for six years, but the chances of getting a green card and renewing your Visa are always high. The slot of 20,000 special visas is reserved for candidates with advanced degrees. The current lottery based system selects candidates randomly on the basis of registration. The chances of getting selected are higher for individuals who submit more applications on their behalf.

This is quite unethical and makes the whole selection process ineffective. One of the proposals is to eliminate this concept of multiple entries to give a fair chance to everyone. Also immigrants will be given the opportunity to start their own business instead of just working for other people. Additionally, versatile job opportunities like bona fide job offers, hybrid work opportunities, work from home opportunities will also be considered.
