UGC recently announced that Indian universities can now admit students twice a year by introducing the concept of dual intake system. Previously, in India, the admission process used to start in June to July, and the new academic session would begin in August. If a student missed out on taking admission during this intake, then the only way out would be to take admission next year during the same time. Students suffering from medical problems or any kind of emergencies would have to end up wasting one year by not being able to get admission into various universities. However, in a landmark decision by UGC, universities will now be able to give admission to students twice a year. One is going to be the regular intake in July and the other one is going to be conducted in January to February. This is not compulsory for universities as of now. The decision has been taken to enhance international collaborations and attract international student diaspora.
