What should you choose between the UK and Europe for international education?

posted on: October 18, 2022

The UK and Europe have a lot of similarities on the surface level. But both of these regions are quite different from each other if you look closely. Similarly, there is a misconception among international students that education in both these regions is quite similar. This is in fact an incorrect opinion. The UK and Europe are completely different from each other when it comes to the curriculum they follow and the fee structure. Here are some differences between both of these to help you get a better understanding of which one to choose-

  • Tuition fees

Most European countries offer free education to international students. You can find a lot of universities that have a higher ranking and yet offer free-of-cost education to everyone. This includes universities in Norway, Iceland, Germany, and the Czech Republic. The private universities that charge fees have very low tuition fees. Whereas in the UK you will rarely find any university that doesn't charge any tuition fees for international students. In fact, as an international student, you will have to pay double the amount of money in tuition fees as compared to a regional student.

  • Scholarships

Both the UK and Europe offer a lot of scholarships to international students. This includes fully funded and partially funded scholarships. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit, financial status, and sports achievements. Although in the UK it's very difficult to find a scholarship that is fully funded you may apply for scholarships at universities like the University of East Anglia Scholarship and the University of Bath: Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence Scholarship. Some fully funded scholarships offered in Europe are Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) Scholarship, ICP Connect: VLIR-UOS Master Scholarship, and Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Programme.

  • Living costs

When it comes to the cost of accommodation, the UK is more expensive than the rest of Europe. London has been continuously ranked as one of the most expensive cities in the world. Although Germany, France, and Spain are some expensive countries to live in, still they are a lot more affordable than the UK.
