There are various options for short time gateways around the ESF. The Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park is one of more than 50 state, county, and city parks and many nature centers within a short drive of campus. Boating, swimming, downhill and cross-country skiing, indoor and outdoor ice skating, and large trail systems are all available in the area, which also boasts 40 golf courses. Lake Ontario and the Finger Lakes of New York are less than an hour away, while the Adirondack Park, the biggest wilderness region east of the Mississippi, is only three hours away.
