In March 2025, BUE won the prestigious PRME Global Students Sustainability Award for Africa. Its “Youth for Sustainable Development” initiative—crafted and executed by students—was selected as the region’s top initiative for promoting environmental, social, and business-model sustainability linked to UN SDGs. This honor recognized BUE’s successful integration of sustainability into student projects, community engagement, and curriculum. As regional winner, the university gained a platform to showcase its leadership in responsible management education and eco-driven student innovation.
In June 2024, BUE received the “Best Joint Research Project” award at the Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University ceremony for its collaborative project “Sustainable Rural Agricultural Waste Management.” Led by Dr. Noha Mostafa and guided by Vice-President Yehia Bahei‑El‑Din, this Arab-international initiative united universities from Saudi Arabia, Algeria, and the UK. Recognized under the umbrella of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt Vision 2030, the project strategized agricultural waste recycling and circular economy approaches in rural communities, enhancing environmental and social impact.
In October 2024, BUE celebrated its annual Distinction Ceremony during its 20th-anniversary year. The university granted honorary doctorates to Coventry University’s VC John Latham (International Education) and distinguished international law scholar Georges Abi‑Saab. Additionally, the prestigious Triple B Awards honored students like Mohamed Loai Ali for community service and academic excellence. These consecutive honors emphasize BUE’s sustained performance in teaching quality, research, innovation, and international outlook—especially impressive given its relatively short history (founded in 2005). The ranking highlights BUE’s rising global impact and excellence.
In June 2021, BUE published a pioneering case study on transforming its Energy & Environmental Engineering building into a zero-energy educational facility. The research detailed the integration of solar photovoltaics and energy-efficiency measures aligned with Egypt’s “green pyramid” rating system. As one of the first Egyptian examples in this field, it showcased how academic buildings could model sustainability, reduce energy consumption, and serve as living laboratories. This project positioned BUE at the forefront of energy-conscious campus design and inspired broader adoption of green building practices in the region
In October 2011, BUE launched its Centre for Renewable Energy (CRE) to advance research and training in sustainable energy. The centre was divided into wind, solar, and biomass divisions by 2019, enabling more focused innovation. CRE worked on drafting Egypt’s energy roadmap with ASME, and collaborated with international stakeholders like NOVA and the University of Wolverhampton on projects such as thermal solar heater upgrades. By institutionalizing renewable energy research, BUE positioned itself as a regional leader in energy sustainability and equipped students to contribute to Egypt’s energy transition
In 2009, BUE celebrated its first graduation, including nine pioneers in Informatics and Computer Science—six in Computer Science and three in Informatics.
