A.C. Willard, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department and later University President, developed the VENTILATION SYSTEM USED IN THE HOLLAND TUNNEL, the world’s longest underwater tunnel for motor vehicles when it opened, and the first tunnel with a ventilation system specifically designed to handle vehicle exhaust fumes.
