Notable Innovation

01.
Hydrophobed porous oil binder in the form of a non-woven fabric of lignocellulose-containing raw materials

This invention relates to a non-woven fabric composed of lignocellulose-containing raw materials, treated so as to become hydrophobic and porous, and having a biologically functionalized surface. The material is designed to remove mineral-oil-based contaminants from water bodies, including seas, rivers, inland waters and stormwater basins or wastewater treatment plants. The binder has specified porosity (30–96 %), thickness (1–25 mm) and flexural strength (≥1.5 N/mm²) and is capable of adsorbing oil pollutants while being lightweight (density 10–900 kg/m³).
