Step-by-Step Guide to Admission Requirements at Columbia College

Columbia College in Vancouver, British Columbia, offers University Transfer Programs and Associate Degrees, which allow students to complete the first two years of undergraduate studies before transferring to a university to complete their bachelor’s degree. While Columbia College itself does not confer bachelor’s degrees, it prepares students for successful transfer to universities.

 

Admission Requirements:

1. Academic Qualifications:

• Applicants must have completed high school (Grade 12) or its equivalent with a satisfactory average, typically a minimum ‘C’ grade.  

2. English Language Proficiency:

• Proof of English proficiency is required for non-native speakers. Accepted tests and minimum scores include:

• IELTS Academic: Overall band score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in writing.

• TOEFL iBT: Equivalent scores are accepted.

• PTE Academic: Equivalent scores are accepted.

• Alternatively, students can take Columbia College’s Language Writing Assessment (LWA) for placement.  

3. Application Materials:

• Completed online application form.

• Official transcripts from the most recent educational institution attended.

• High School Graduation Certificate (for applicants to University programs).

• Copy of the personal information page in your passport.

• Proof of English proficiency (if applicable).

• Payment of a non-refundable application fee of CAD 200.  

4. Tuition Deposit:

• Upon receiving an Offer of Admission, international students are required to prepay a tuition deposit of CAD 14,540, covering 24 credits over two semesters, initial medical insurance, and activity fees.  

5. Study Permit:

• International students must obtain a valid study permit to study in Canada. The Official Letter of Acceptance from Columbia College is necessary for the study permit application process.

  • Columbia College has partnered with BCIT to offer a pathway for students interested in digital forensics and cybersecurity. Students who complete an Associate of Science Degree in Computer Science at Columbia College are eligible for direct entry into BCIT’s Bachelor of Technology in Forensic Investigation (Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity option). This program equips graduates with skills to investigate and prevent cybercrime, extract digital evidence, and strengthen cybersecurity measures.
