In 1932 Cranbrook Academy of Art was founded. The Cranbrook Academy of Art is one of the America's leading graduate schools for architecture, art, and design. It was founded by George Booth and Ellen Scripps Booth. The institution was first headed by Eliel Saarinen. It was initially started on 319- acres of land. Saarinen was appointed as a chief architect and he designed Cranbrook Academy of Art. The campus is a National Historic landmark in Michigan. Cranbrook Academy of Art is a part of the Cranbrook Educational System.

The Cranbrook Academy of Art’s buildings makes it a remarkable campus. Spending life on the campus is like living in a design storybook. The campus is spread across 319-acres of land. The campus is located just outside of Detroit, Michigan, full of woods, lakes, streams, landscaped courtyards, and thoughtful built buildings. The campus also includes a world-class art museum, a natural history museum, and a PreK-12 college preparatory school.
Saarinen befriended Carl Milles and constructed unique sculptures and fountains on-campus. Cranbrook campus has the largest collection of Milles sculptures outside of Milles Gården in Sweden. Tod Williams and Billie Tsien, Rafael Moneo and Steven Holl also contributed to the university's architecture. Cranbrook Academy of Art’s campus has been designated a National Historic Landmark in the United States of America.

The two dining halls are- The Cranbrook Upper School Dining Hall which is located adjacent to the Academy, Kingswood Dining Hall is located a short walk away from the Academy. The dining halls provide food 7 days a week. Dining plan offers different dining options which includes special dietary menus such as vegetarian and low-fat food. The plans are designed to fit the busy schedule of students, the plan assists all dietary preferences by providing a wide range of dining options and healthy food options. There are a number of cafes and restaurants available on-campus which provides a huge variety to students.
