Edith Cowan University (ECU), named after Edith Dircksey Cowan, Western Australia’s first female parliamentarian, has a rich history dating back to 1902 as Claremont Teachers College. It evolved into the Western Australian College of Advanced Education (WACAE) before gaining university status in 1991.
