In 1890, Illinois Institute of Technology was founded. It is a private research university located in west side of Chicago, Illinois. In 1940, the institution’s present name was adopted upon the merger of the Armour Institute and Lewis Institute. The institute expanded vigorously after the merger. The campus is spread over120 acres of land. The university works on the semester-based academic system. Illinois Technology is a private institute, which grants PhD programs in engineering, science, human sciences, applied technology, architecture, business, law, and design. It is one of the 23 institutions that includes the Association of Independent Technological Universities. It is ranked #42 in Best Value Universities by U.S. News and World Report. University Infrastructure & Services
Mies Campus at Illinois institute of Technology covers 120-acre of land and it is the main campus. This campus was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, who was considered nation’s one of the most influential architects in the 20th century and he was also the director of the architecture program at Illinois Tech from 1938 to 1958. In 1976, the American Institute of Architects recognized the Illinois Tech main campus, as one of the 200 most significant works of architecture in the United States of America. In 2001, S. R. Crown Hall, the place where Illinois Tech's College of Architecture is located, was named as a National Historic Landmark.
Conviser Law Center
The 10-storey Downtown Campus at 565 West Adams Street at Illinois Institute of Technology was designed by Gerald Horn of Holabird & Root. In 1992, it was built by Illinois Tech and it is home to Illinois Tech's Chicago-Kent College of Law, Institute of Design (ID), and Stuart School of Business. In early 2020 the Downtown Campus was renamed as the Conviser Law.
The 19-acre Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Campus in west suburban Wheaton at Illinois Institute of Technology was designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz & Associates and in 1990 it was built. The campus offers graduate programs, upper-level undergraduate courses, and continuing professional education to students.
In 1947, the five-acre Moffett Campus in southwest suburban Bedford Park at Illinois Institute of Technology was designed by Schmidt, Garden, and Erickson and in 1988, it was donated to Illinois Tech. It is home to the Institute for Food Safety and Health (IFSH), which involves the National Center for Food Safety and Technology, a unique association of government, industry, and academic partners as well.
Five Libraries at Illinois Institute of Technology’s multiple campuses provide faculty and students with research support, quick access to the collections, resources, and study spaces. The collections at Illinois Technology libraries have printed ebooks, e-journals, newspapers, government documents, and more than 100 online research databases. Librarians are skilled to support a wide range of academic programs and are available for online or in-person research assistance to everyone at the time of need. Libraries are focused towards enhancing the academic experience of each student on the campus. The libraries’ staff and partners have made a wealth of online collections which includes rare and unique materials that have been digitized to be viewed by a wide range of people, as well as preserved for the convenience of coming generations. Galvin Library, Chicago-Kent College of Law Library, Center for the Study of Ethics in the Professions Library, Graham Resource Centre and Institute for Food Safety and Health Library.
On-campus- The Office of Residence Life at Illinois Institute of Technology provides residence halls, apartments and family housing. Students can select the room of their choice based on costs, hall facilities, location, availability. Room design vary per hall and include multi-person units, singles, studios, suites and some apartment-style rooms with kitchens for convenient living.
