Södertörn University offers a range of support services for students, including computer labs and special ICT suites with assistive technologies (e.g., spelling software, speech synthesis, scanners) in the library to support students with disabilities.  The Information Centre (“Infocenter”) is located near the main entrance (MA level 5) and caters to student queries, enrolment, guest WiFi access, and campus orientation.  Moreover, the institution provides accessible facilities (automatic door openers, hearing loops in lecture halls, accessible toilets) and priority parking for students/visitors with disabilities.

Housing facilities (Accommodation)

SH offers student-housing options in and around the Flemingsberg campus area. For example, at the “Flemingsberg Centre” building international and Swedish students live in single or shared studio apartments (approx. 23-26 m²) with kitchenette and bathroom; the rent for one semester is about SEK 35,000-36,000 inclusive of utilities.  The university also notes that not all students are guaranteed housing and eligibility is restricted (e.g., tuition-fee paying students or exchange students for at least one semester) and study load requirement (at least 15 credits per semester) applies.  Off-campus accommodation advice is also provided since stock may be limited.

Student Safety

Student safety at SH is addressed via clear instructions and emergency contacts: for ongoing offences or danger to life/health one should call 112, for theft or vandalism one should contact the university security guard at 08 608 45 00, and the university’s security email is [email protected].  The campus is equipped with defibrillators (AED) and has fire/evacuation procedures posted.  Furthermore, the university’s “Rights & Obligations” policies emphasise a discrimination-free environment and lay down disciplinary procedures should students be subject to harassment or similar.
