University History

Southern Methodist University is situated in Dallas, Texas. The University was founded by the Methodist Episcopal Church, South in collaboration with the civic leaders in the year 1911. The only functioning department in the beginning was the Medical College. Southern Methodist University now has more than 12,000 diverse students coming from all 50 states and more than 80 countries worldwide to study and be a part of this huge community.

Southern Methodist University campus is located in Dallas, Texas. The campus is situated in Highland Park and University Park in Dallas. The campus was ranked among the most beautiful campuses in America. The main campus consists of the Dallas Hall that is the center of the campus and also the center for the Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences.

There are two other Southern Methodist University campuses, one is called the Taos campus and Plano campus. Taos campus is located at Fort Burgwin, outside Taos, New Mexico. The Plano campus is located in Plano, Texas, in Legacy Business Park.

Medical services

Southern Methodist University Medical services provide consultations with physicians, minor surgery, care of injuries, treatment of minor illnesses, immunizations, and continuation of treatments such as allergy injections. The Health center also organizes various wellness programs for students.

Visa and Immigration services

Southern Methodist University Visa and Immigration services are provided by the department of International student and scholar services. It gives information on immigration services to students, scholars and professors on F or J visas.

There are two categories under which the International Students are given Visa that are J-1 Exchange visitor and H-1B Temporary work visa. After the visa type is determined one is supposed to pile up all the required documents. The DS-2019 will be processed. After that pay the SEVIS fee of $220. Then apply for a J1 Visa at the US Embassy.

Scholarship for International students

Southern Methodist University Scholarships for International Students are a good one to look forward to. Almost 3 out of every 4 students receive financial aid from the University. The University does not have any specific scholarships for the International students but students can get awarded various scholarships that are given based on their performances in the University.   • Official TOEFL, IELTS, OR Duolingo English Test (DET) results are required for students whose language of instruction is bilingual or not solely in English.

Student life

Southern Methodist University student life is entertaining and quite engaging because of the various traditions that are being followed on the campus. There are around 3200 undergraduate and graduate students that live on the campus. There are around 200 student organizations in the campus. There are various internships and research projects that the students are working towards. 


Students completely run various media channels like magazines, yearbooks, and publications and so on. To name a few:
