Founded in 1870 in Hoboken, New Jersey, Stevens Institute of Technology is a private research university. It was the first American college which was exclusively dedicated to Mechanical Engineering and the first college to require students to use computers in their classes.

The university comprises of 4 schools and colleges: Charles V. Schaefer, Jr. School of Engineering, School of Business, School of Systems and Enterprises and College of Arts and Letters. The most popular majors at the university are Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration and Management, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Computer Science. The Stevens Institute of Technology offers 35 undergraduate majors, over 40 Masters Degree programs, 21 PhD programs and over 100 Graduate Certificates.

The university has a student population of more than 6,300 of which over 2,900 are enrolled at the undergraduate level. The university has a cosy student to faculty ratio of 10:1 and an acceptance rate of 44%. It also offers various special opportunities, including accelerated undergraduate-graduate degree programs and pre-professional programs.
