SRU’s Facilities & Planning Department is tasked with maintaining a quality physical environment, overseeing campus buildings, grounds, and utilities, and planning long-term upgrades. 

The university has an ongoing electrical infrastructure upgrade project, planned in multiple phases, to modernize campus electrical systems to meet current and future demands. 

Recent facility improvements (scheduled May–August) include: replacement of underground steam/condensate lines, pond dredging, road repairs, HVAC upgrades in buildings, roof repairs on library and academic buildings, and converting intramural fields to artificial turf . 

The Robert M. Smith Student Center is a modern, student-centered building (107,000 sq ft) housing dining, retail, student organization offices, lounges, conference spaces, and performance rooms. It’s LEED Silver certified.

Step-by-Step Guide to Admission Requirements at Slippery Rock University

A completed application and payment of $30 application fee (or waiver) is required. 

Official high school transcripts (including 12th grade schedule if available) must be submitted. 

SRU practices a test-optional policy (does not require SAT / ACT) for undergraduate admission (through 2027). 

Students with cumulative GPA ≥ 3.25 in core high school courses are automatically admitted. 

The university recommends a college-preparatory curriculum including:

  • 4 years of English

  • 3 years of social studies

  • 3 years of science (at least two lab sciences)

  • 3 years of mathematics

  • 2 years of foreign language (recommended) 

If students do not meet the automatic criteria, they may be considered via waitlist / holistic review, considering rigor of courses, trends in grades, performance in core courses, etc. 

For special tracks (e.g. Nursing 1+2+1), additional requirements may apply including specific course units, minimum grades in math / science, and SAT / ACT minimums. 

For international undergraduate applicants, in addition to above:

  • Submit official translations of all secondary and (if applicable) postsecondary transcripts. 

  • English language proficiency: minimum TOEFL iBT 62, IELTS 6.0, or Duolingo (95) for non-native English speakers, unless exemption criteria are met.
