In the United States of America a provision was passed by Congress in 1986 that requires American universities to disclose gifts or charities which account for more than USD 250000 but for years this has been ignored by both the federal government as well the universities. Although universities disclosed the charity and gifts but it was very sparse and the warnings were very seldom as well. But the system changed a lot in 2019 after the Trump government started closely monitoring the data of universities. Recently Harvad has come under radar for a similar incident when Charles Lieber, who is the chair of the chemistry department was taken out handcuffed after being accused of hiding about fundings that he received from a Chinese University. Now students and parents need to look into economic prospects and the relationship between both the countries. Proper research must be conducted. Posted on: May 25, 2022

Medicine as a profession has always been a top priority for many students. The availability of medical seats in the Indian government colleges is very less which makes it highly competitive. Due to this students migrate to different countries where the cost of education is lower than that of private medical colleges in India. Every year around 10000 Indian students go to countries like Philippines, Bangladesh, Georgia, Nepal, Ukraine, Armenia, Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan among others to pursue medical courses. Students who have obtained a medical degree from abroad must go through a screening test before being able to practice medicine in India. The National Medical Commission launched certain guidelines that students must follow in order to practice medicine in India which no country in the world was able to fulfill completely. Since 2016 when NEET was started, it has become an essential criteria for students to clear the test and then become eligible for admission into any medical degree. But many colleges outside India don't follow this. In Fact they lure Indian students into taking admission into their courses.

The importance of ranking

Posted on: May 23, 2022

Throughout the globe there are 1000 universities , so it becomes very confusing to decide which university to enroll in. There needs to be some unbiased criteria which compares these  universities otherwise all the universities claim to be the best in their own selves. This is where rankings come in use. Rankings assess the universities on mutual parameters like infrastructure, placements, faculty, extra - curriculars, student satisfaction rate etc. One can compare the university based on reliable sources of rankings like the QS system, Times, USNews and many others. Environment sustainability and adherence to the SDG's is one new domain that these ranking lists have started considering as well. Whether the universities are environment aware or not is an important question because this also symbolises their futuristic approach.

Why is research neglected so much?

Posted on: May 23, 2022

The experiments and failures of today will solve the problems of tomorrow. The more attention we will pay towards research, the better it will be for us all. Research activities are a very important yardstick for determining if the university is doing good or not academically. Any university that is not active in research is probably lagging behind with a gap of 5-10 years from a university that is active. According to the QS World University Rankings, Massachusetts Institute of Technology ranks number one when it comes to research activities with an annual expenditure of 762 million dollars in research followed by Oxford University with an annual expenditure of 72 million dollars. Of Course it is not rational to compare the universities of a developing or underdeveloped country with a developed country but it's needless to say that research quality is much higher in developed countries. Underdeveloped countries often remain ignorant to research and that is the reason why so many of their students migrate. It is very crucial for universities to understand the importance of research not only for the good of the future generation but for the present as well.

Importance of early childhood investments according to the World Bank

Posted on: May 21, 2022

According to reports by the World Bank 43% of children under the age of 5 that roughly accounts for 250 million children are under the risk of missing out on their potential development.  According to that data only 20% of children in low income countries have the access to early childhood education as compared to the high income countries where the number goes up to 80%. This has nothing to do with the pandemic as before 53% of 10 year old children from middle income countries were not able to read a short paragraph. This is called 'learning poverty'. The number is likely to jump to 70%. Preschooling is very important and hence large investments must be made in the primary education of children specially in low income countries. Richer countries must help these countries by providing them both financial and moral assistance by helping them develop a plan that includes all the children and guarantees their basic education needs.

All the reasons to consider a community college

Posted on: May 21, 2022

Around 30% of students in the US are enrolled in public universities which offer flexibility and open enrollment policies. It's a good way to kickstart your journey after school before going for a full four year course. But there are some colleges that offer programs just like a university worth experience. First and foremost is the obvious benefit of costs and finance as these colleges have a very reasonable fee structure. Many of these community colleges have a tie-up with bigger universities nearby and students get transferred into them after a certain time like after two years. This makes it even more cost effective and they get the value of big names as well. Since these colleges are very close to student's homes, it becomes easier for them to adapt to college life as they don't have to adjust to a new environment. Community colleges also take into consideration the personal problems of students like part time jobs and thus offer a great deal of flexibility.
