High school diploma must be officially translated into Greek and recognized.
Language Requirement:
Most bachelor’s programs are taught in Greek.

In November 2024, the University honored Ioannis Hatzitheodosiou, President of the Professional Chamber of Athens, with an Honorary Doctorate from the Department of Agribusiness & Supply Chain Management. The ceremony underscored his advocacy for agricultural entrepreneurship and the modernization of the Greek primary sector, praising AUA’s scientific contributions to national development.
In November 2022, former Rector and Professor Andreas Karamanos was elected a full member of the Academy of Athens, taking the prestigious seat in "Sustainable Primary Agricultural Production" within the Class of Exact Sciences. The election acknowledged his leading work on crop productivity under drought and climate-adaptive agriculture.
In 2021, AUA awarded an Honorary Doctorate to alumnus Andreas N. Angelakis, who earned his Agricultural Sciences degree in 1962. His distinguished career spans leadership in international water science: he has been a Fellow and Distinguished Fellow of the International Water Association, chaired key working groups including water reuse and ancient civilizations, and was inducted into the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. AUA recognized his lifelong contributions to water resources and environmental sustainability.
Between 2024 and 2025, AUA researchers led by Dr. Dimitris Savvas developed a decision-support software (DSS) for rational fertilization. Used by the Psari Agricultural Cooperative in Crete, the tool calculates optimal fertilizer applications based on soil and irrigation water data. The system reduced over-fertilization, lowered costs, boosted yields (especially in hydroponics), and launched through an AUA spin-off with subscription pricing of approx. €150–200/year.
As part of the EU‑funded CrackSense project (2023–2025), AUA developed a Spatial Decision Support System (SDSS) to predict fruit cracking risk. The system aggregates environmental and phenological data with AI models to advise growers on optimal harvesting and risk mitigation strategies. It includes a centralized fruit-cracking database, prediction algorithms, and a user-accessible platform built during WP4, led by Prof. Spyros Fountas and team.
From 2022 onward, as part of the Smart Droplets EU project, AUA developed an AI-powered precision spraying system equipped with dual 1080p cameras and on-site processing via an NVIDIA Jetson Orin. The system uses YOLO‑based computer vision to detect weeds in wheat and diseases in apple orchards. GPS‑tagged outputs guide targeted spraying, drastically reducing chemical use. Prototype tests in Lithuania and Spain showed weed detection at 0.8 mAP and disease detection at 0.7 mAP, and validated GPS‑to‑sprayer control integration.
