Alcorn State University History

Alcorn State University's history started in 1871. It was also the first Black land grant college based in the United States. It is known as Alcorn University from 1871 to 1878. After 1878, it was renamed Alcorn Agricultural and Mechanical College. University changed its name from Alcorn Agricultural and Mechanical College to Alcorn State University in 1974. It works on the vision – Where Knowledge and Character Matter.

Alcorn State University campuses include – the Lorman campus, Natchez campus, and Vicksburg campus. The main campus of the University is in Lorman, Claiborne County, Mississippi.
