Algonquin College is named in honor of the Algonquin First Nations Peoples who first lived in the Ottawa Valley. 

University History

In 1967 Algonquin College was founded in Ontario, Canada. In the beginning, classroom space was rented from the Perth and District Collegiate Institute. In 1970, the new campus featured a 22,500 square-foot facility and had 22 classrooms and three shops. The first courses to be offered were English, Math, Science and Machine Shop.  Skills programs such as Commercial Stenography, Business Machines—Bookkeeping, Machine Shop Training, Electronics, Welding and Carpentry were also offered. In 2011, a brand-new campus of Perth was constructed which is spread across an area of 42,000 square-foot facilities. The new building holds a Personal Support Worker lab, a Carpentry and Joinery Shop, a Masonry Shop, a library, a Students' Association Office, a fitness center and student services.

Algonquin College Perth’s main campus is spread across 42,000 square-foot of land. The Perth Campus is located in beautiful, heritage Perth, Ontario, which is part of Lanark County. The institute is one of the stops on the Communities in Bloom judges’ tour of the Town of Perth for the 2015 award season. Perth received top honors, edging out six other communities from across Canada to win the national award for its population category (4,501-9,000). The Perth campus earned high marks in the Environmental Action and Heritage categories, and its strong community partnerships were also recognized. 


 Algonquin College Perth campus consists of a library, which plays an important part of the educational experience and an invaluable resource for students, faculty, staff, and alumni, but also for the broad community. The library offers books, e-books and services to support academic studies and enhance research work at Algonquin College Perth. The Perth Campus library is home to an amazing collection of local history documents.  Many residents use the collection to do genealogical research. University library is focused to provide high-quality library resources, programs, and services to the students. The library provides flexible and well-equipped surroundings to everyone’s research and learning needs. On-campus- Algonquin College Perth doesn’t provide any on-campus accommodation. 

Off-campus- Algonquin College Perth assists students in finding off-campus housing near University’s campus. They provide convenient housing to students, faculty and staff nearby university. The rental accommodation near the Algonquin College Perth includes Apartments, Suites and sharing rooms. Algonquin College Perth provides the Housing List as a service to its students. The College takes no responsibility for the student or landlord’s decision to enter into a rental/boarding arrangement.
