American University in Cairo is an English-language university and preparatory school which is located in Cairo, Egypt. It was founded in 1919 by the American Mission in Egypt. The Founder of the University is Charles A. Watson who wanted to establish a western institution for higher education. The university enrolled its first female student in 1928. The same year the University graduated its first class, with two Bachelor of Arts and one Bachelor of Sciences degrees awarded.

American University in Cairo has 2 campuses which are known as Tahrir Square Campus and New Cairo campus. Tahrir Square campus was developed on all sides of the Khairy Pasha Palace. The palace inspired an architectural style that has been reciprocated throughout Cairo. New Cairo Campus offers advanced facilities for research and learning, also the modern resources needed to support campus life. The New Cairo campus provides six schools and ten research centers.
