Developed by professors Luis F. Castañeda Melo, Javier F. Castaño Forero, and Rafael Gutiérrez Salamanca (Faculty of Mechanical, Electronic & Biomedical Engineering, Villavicencio campus), this technology enables high-speed internet connectivity through LED lighting—part of Visible Light Communication (VLC). UAN holds multiple patents: • “OWMT” device (Colombian patent) • “LiRe” optical receiver (granted in the USA, 2021, and in Colombia, 2023) Together, these technologies facilitate secure, electromagnetic-free internet access in sensitive environments such as surgery rooms, airports, and fuel stations
UAN was granted a utility model patent (Resolution 47147, August 12, 2020) for a novel machine and method that takes empty beverage containers—such as cans—and transforms them into interlocking tubular conduits. The system mechanically processes and assembles the containers using adhesive, resulting in recyclable tubes suitable for holding liquids like soup, coffee, or hot chocolate. This cost-effective innovation offers an eco-friendly alternative to traditional polystyrene or paper products.
