Established in 2000, the Auckland University of Technology (often referred as AUT) is a public university located in Auckland, New Zealand. The university was formed when a former technical college, originally established in 1895 was granted the status of a university. AUT is a multi-campus university and operates 3 campuses: City Campus, South Campus, and North Campus. The university also operates the Millenium Institute, Warkworth Radio Astronomical Observatory and the Centre for Refugee Education.
The university offers various undergraduate and postgraduate degrees across five faculties: Faculty of Culture and Society; Faculty of Business and Law; Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies; Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences; and known as Faculty of Maori and Indigenous Development. In total, the university offers 250 bachelor’s degrees, graduate diplomas, master’s degrees, MBAs, and PhDs. It is renowned for its programs in Art & Design; Accounting and Finance; Business and Management Studies; Computer Science and InformationSystems; Education; Economics and Econometrics; ElectricalEngineering; Hospitality and Leisure Management; Law; Linguistics and Sports-related subjects.
The total student population at the AUT is more than 29,000 and the student to faculty ratio is 23:1. The university attracts international students from over 90 countries across the world.
New research centers and institutes were opened by the university in 2016, bringing the total number to more than 60, covering a wide range of disciplines. Due to a high proportion of international students, international faculties and research partnerships, the 2017 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking ranked AUT as one of the top 20 universities worldwide for International Outlook.
