The college was founded in the year 1860 as Augustana College and Theological Seminary. The college was founded by the Scandinavian Evangelical Lutheran Augustana Synod. The college initially was in Chicago, then moved to Paxton and now currently located in Rock Island. The college over the period of time grew and expanded.

Campus

Augustana College Campus is based at the Rock Island, Illinois. The campus has one of the major buildings that is also called the Old Main building. The building was also listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The other major buildings of the campus are: Robert A. and Patricia K. Hanson Hall of Science and Peter J. Lindberg, M.D., Center for Health and Human Performance. The campus also has residential copmlex that consists of all the residential halls available in the campus. The campus also has the  Fryxell Geology Museum. This museum is famous for having great collections of rocks and minerals and even dinosaurs.
