The college was founded in the year 1860 as Augustana College and Theological Seminary. The college was founded by the Scandinavian Evangelical Lutheran Augustana Synod. The college initially was in Chicago, then moved to Paxton and now currently located in Rock Island. The college over the period of time grew and expanded.

Augustana College Campus is based at the Rock Island, Illinois. The campus has one of the major buildings that is also called the Old Main building.
