Bath Spa University History

As part of the postwar initiatives to fill wartime teaching shortages, Bath Teacher Training College was established on the Newton Park site in 1946. The college was awarded degree-awarding powers in 1992, and the name Bath Spa University College was adopted in 1997. Bath Spa University was established in August 2005, after the school received university status in March 2005.

Bath Spa University's main campus is located in Newton Park, some 32 miles (5.6 kilometers) west of the city centre. Other campuses of the university can be found in Bath and Corsham Court in Wiltshire. The university's Newton Park campus is the largest of the university's three main campuses, located west of Bath near the community of Newton St Loe.
