California Lutheran University also known as CLU is a private liberal arts university situated in Thousand Oaks, California.

California Lutheran University History

California Lutheran University was founded in 1959 and is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, but it is not a religious institution. It was California's first four-year liberal arts college and Ventura County's first four-year private college when it opened in 1960 as California Lutheran College. On January 1, 1986, it changed its name to California Lutheran University.

    California Lutheran University has a 290-acre (1.2 km2) campus in Thousand Oaks, a city in southern Ventura County, California, with 41 buildings, four fields, two stadiums, two swimming pools, a tennis court, botanic gardens, and undeveloped chaparral hillsides. It is located 45 miles north of Los Angeles. The Gilbert Sports and Fitness Center is a 96,000-square-foot (8,900-square-meter) athletics complex at the university. The 50-meter Samuelson Aquatic Center and a 4,800-square-foot (450 m2) community pool are adjacent to the complex.

California Lutheran University Libraries

 Pearson Library is the name of California Lutheran University's library. Pearson Library is home to 132,744 books and 1,497 serial subscriptions. As of 2010, the library housed 72,316 e-books, 2,378 audiovisuals, and 550 current serials in addition to its 136,000 titles. Pearson Library, which opened in 1985, is a selective depository for government documents as well as a provider of typewriters, video recorders, microcomputers, and audiovisual equipment. It has access to resources at over 3,000 additional libraries through the Online Computer Library Center. The library is located next to the Preus-Brandt Forum Theatre, which seats 250 people. It can be found at 135 Chapel Lane. A library director, a collection development librarian, an information literacy librarian, an acquisitions librarian, an interlibrary loan librarian, a public services coordinator, and two circulation coordinators work at Pearson Library.

  Many residential houses provide housing services to California Lutheran University. If students choose to do so, California Lutheran University guarantees them on-campus housing for all four years. Freshmen and sophomores must live on campus or at home; however, juniors and seniors may choose to live off-campus with friends. As of 2011, 63% of the student body lived on campus, with 88% of all freshmen living on campus. On campus, alcohol is not permitted.

Thousand Oaks is the second-largest city in Ventura County, California, and the second-largest city in the United States. It is located in the northwest corner of Greater Los Angeles, about 15 miles (24 kilometres) from the city of Los Angeles and 40 miles (64 kilometres) from Downtown. Many work-study positions are advertised on Handshake, the Career Center's online job posting site, by campus offices. To apply for open positions, you must upload an updated, college-level resume to your Handshake profile; once reviewed, you will receive either feedback for improvement or an approval notice. Students from other countries studying at Cal Lutheran are allowed to work on campus for a maximum of 20 hours per week. All international students must maintain F-1 visa status throughout their campus employment and apply for a social security card prior to their first day of work.
